A simple and comfortable all‑metal full‑size pistol has earned its stable place with law enforcement units, in home defense, and as a competition, sport, and recreational firearm. It better suits the needs of shooters who carry it openly at the range. For concealed EDC, it is not very suitable due to its larger dimensions and weight.
By replacing the base pad, you can further adapt its characteristics to your requirements. The base pad is the part of the magazine located on its bottom side. It is usually made of plastic or metal (brass, aluminum, steel).
If you decide to equip the CZ 75 B with a
magwell, you will not be able to do without replacing it. Why is that? We will break everything down step by step.
Compatibility with the firearm
Compatibility with your model functions as the first crossroads for further selection. In this category you will find base pads for the following CZ models:
-
CZ 75B,
-
CZ 75B Ω, and other CZ 75B models.
Base pads for CZ models can be divided into 3 main groups:
-
Base pads of the CZ 75 type – for CZ P01, CZ Shadow 2, CZ SP01, CZ 75, CZ 75 Compact
-
Base pads of the CZ TS type – for CZ TS 2 (CZ TS 2 Orange, CZ TS 2 Racing Green & others) and CZ Tactical Sports models (CZ 75 Tactical Sports, CZ TS Orange, CZ TS Czechmate)
-
Base pads for polymer models – for CZ P10 models (except CZ P10M, which has a thinner magazine), CZ P07, and CZ P09
You are now interested in the CZ 75 type. Base pads in this group do not all look the same, but they are mutually compatible, meaning that they fit all the mentioned models.
Note: Compatibility practically corresponds with
magazine compatibility. Therefore, if a certain type of magazine fits various CZ models, the base pads will be similarly compatible as well.
Why replace the base pad on your CZ 75 B and which one to choose
By replacing the base pad, you can better adapt your firearm to the purpose for which you use it. Now we will go over everything that such a change can achieve and how to choose the one that suits you best.
Faster magazine drop
For the magazine to eject as quickly as possible after pressing the magazine release, its higher weight helps. A metal base pad made of brass or a base pad with increased capacity adds extra grams. The greater weight also contributes to better stability when shooting. This is useful, for example, in dynamic sport shooting, where every second counts, but also for duty firearms.
increased durability
Metal base pads absorb impact on the ground better and protect the magazine body from damage.
Capacity increase
Some base pads serve to increase the magazine capacity. The number of additional rounds is indicated by the “+xrnd” marking in the product description. Capacity can be increased by up to 8 rounds.
Legal restrictions
In some countries, magazine capacity is restricted by legislation. In such a case, you will likely have a “pinned”/restricted magazine. It is restricted from the upper part, and you cannot increase its capacity in any way. However, the magazine will be visually extended.
Better grip during reloading
A magazine that fits the hand better is easier to handle. Manufacturers of aftermarket base pads take this into account and design them to improve the ergonomics of the entire magazine. Some base pads are specifically shaped to improve ergonomics during reloading.
Magwell installation
If you decide to install a magwell, its mounting will be obstructed by the front part of the base pad, so you will have to replace it with one that is compatible with the magwell.
Whether a given base pad can be used with a magwell or not can be found in the descriptions of individual products.
TIP: With a magwell, you also need to install
short grips.
Aesthetics
The base pad is visible at first glance, and therefore you can use it to complement and customize the appearance of your firearm, even if only by changing its color. The aluminum ones are produced in many color variants that satisfy even the highest user demands.
Material
In our offer, you will find aluminum base pads, which combine sufficient durability, reasonable weight, and affordability.
Some shooters prefer brass. They choose it because of the higher weight of brass and the related advantages of faster magazine ejection, better weight distribution during shooting itself, and greater material durability.
Can I replace the base pad myself?
Yes, you can replace it yourself without the help of professionals.
There are several types of mounting, so the procedures differ slightly. A visual guide can be found on our YT channel CZ Parts.
Remember:
-
Always verify that the chamber is empty.
-
When removing the base pad, proceed carefully so that the spring and follower do not pop out.
TIP: If your firearm has a base pad permanently press‑fitted, leave its replacement to a gunsmith.
