The CZ 97B model is no longer in production. However, it still ranks among the largest pistols ever released by CZUB. It is built for .45 ACP cartridges, so it is often purchased by fans of this large American caliber. The heavy all-metal pistol of massive dimensions is primarily suitable for sport shooting, where it excels due to its excellent accuracy. It is not used for EDC or as a service weapon due to its large dimensions.
Holsters for individual models
Holsters are manufactured for each model to measure according to a precise mold so that the firearms fit into them perfectly. In this category, you will find holsters for models CZ 97B, CZ 97BD and other CZ 97 models.
With us, you will find holsters for standard factory models. The CZ 97B is not adapted from the factory for the installation of accessories. However, if you do install optics, a frame mount or other accessories that fundamentally change its profile, expect that you will need a custom holster.
In this article, we will focus on how to choose the ideal holster. We will discuss them in terms of material and method of carry.
Kydex or leather?
In our offer, you will find holsters made of kydex or leather. From our own experience and the feedback of our customers, we have concluded that these are the two most sensible materials for the production of pistol holsters.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of these two materials?
Kydex: highly functional material
Advantages:
-
Constant shape: It will not stretch, loosen, or compress. The holster remains open, and you can easily return the pistol to it with one hand.
-
Safety: The firearm is held firmly inside. You will recognize the correct seating by the characteristic "click" heard after insertion.
-
Fast draw: Kydex has only minimal resistance and does not stick to the firearm like leather. You only have to overcome the resistance in the first moment for the holster to expand at the point where it embraces the trigger guard; after that, it comes out completely smoothly. You will appreciate this in situations where seconds count.
-
Easy maintenance: Or rather, practically zero. Simply wipe the holster with a damp cloth.
-
"Indestructibility": The material resists sun, sweat, frost, oil, and most chemicals.
Disadvantages:
-
Discomfort: Hard plastic can press against you, and the larger the model, the more significantly you will feel it. At the same time, however, it is necessary to take into account the physical constitution of each shooter.
-
Firearm wear: Abrasion may occur in places where the firearm rubs against the holster (on the trigger guard and on the edges of the slide).
Our tip: Holsters from RH Holsters have a very smooth finish inside, which minimizes this issue.
Leather: aesthetics and classic
Advantages:
-
Comfort: The greatest benefit. Leather is a pleasant and soft material that adapts to the body and the firearm, and it does not press even if you have the firearm on your body all day.
-
Protects the firearm surface: It does not abrade the firearm like plastic.
-
Style: For many people, cold plastic is visually uninteresting and cold. Leather, on the other hand, looks stylish and elegant.
Disadvantages:
-
Maintenance: Leather as a natural material is malleable and adaptable, but it also works and requires proper care – treatment with special leather products so that it does not crack and dry out, or conversely cleaning if it absorbs sweat.
-
Flexibility: Over time, it may happen that you will need both hands when returning the pistol to the holster, because the leather becomes so soft that the opening "collapses" after drawing.
-
Requires time: A new holster can be tighter, and it then takes a longer time before it loosens and the firearm can be drawn and inserted easily. After a longer time, there is a risk of stretching and greater play.
Summary
Leather is a soft and pliable material that adapts well to the body. However, it also requires more maintenance and stretches more easily.
Kydex is the exact opposite; it has zero play, is rigid and constant. It requires almost no maintenance and has proven very effective for large and heavy pistols.
OWB or IWB?
Do you want to have the pistol on the outside of the waistband (OWB – outside the waistband) or on the inside of the pants (IWB – inside the waistband)? Each holster can be attached in only one of these ways.
An IWB holster for such a large firearm as the CZ 97B does not make much sense. You would hide it under your pants only with great difficulty, and if you did, it would be considerably uncomfortable. For this model, we therefore recommend an OWB holster, which will ensure your comfort as well as the safe storage of the firearm.
Choose according to personal preferences
The choice of a suitable holster does not depend only on facts; it is primarily about personal preferences. These include your relationship with individual materials and carry styles, how you use the firearm, as well as your body build and which holster is most comfortable for you to carry.
