A holster is also an inherent part of a pistol. Without it, the firearm cannot be carried; at most, it can lie in a nightstand or a safe.
Leather holsters are an ageless classic. If you are looking for style and elegance, wish to match the holster with a belt, or own a traditional firearm such as the CZ 75, leather holsters most likely appeal to you more than plastic ones.
We will now look at what you can expect from leather holsters, where they excel, and if they also have any weaker points.
Leather: aesthetics and classic
Leather is a classic and popular material that lasts a long time if you give it proper care. Given the comfort that leather holsters provide, they are chosen especially by those who carry their firearm concealed or all day long.
Advantages:
-
Comfort: The greatest benefit. Leather is a pleasant and soft material that adapts to the body and the firearm, and it does not press even if you have the firearm on your body all day.
-
Protects the firearm surface: It does not abrade the firearm like plastic.
-
Style: For many people, cold plastic is visually uninteresting and cold. Leather, on the other hand, looks stylish and elegant.
Disadvantages:
-
Maintenance: Leather as a natural material works and requires proper care. It has a tendency to absorb sweat (especially with IWB holsters, which are pressed against the body), which damages the material, and if you have a metal pistol, it can cause corrosion. Therefore, it is very important to clean, lubricate, and maintain leather holsters regularly.
-
It stretches: Over time, it may happen that you will need both hands when returning the pistol to the holster, because the leather becomes so soft that the opening "collapses" after drawing.
-
Requires time: A new holster can be tighter, and it then takes a longer time before it loosens and the firearm can be drawn and inserted easily.
Leather for all-day carry, kydex for competition?
Kydex holsters are more suitable for training at the shooting range, competitions, or for service purposes. Thanks to their rigidity and the possibility of a fast draw, they better fulfill their purpose in situations where seconds count.
Of course, it is not always so straightforward and depends on your personal preferences.
At the same time, it applies that if you carry a firearm concealed for self-defense in a leather holster, you should also train with it at the shooting range, because that is exactly where you prepare for "the real thing" and you need to have the firearm well-tested in practice.
Model as a crucial crossroad
Holsters are manufactured specifically for each model according to a precise mold so that the pistols fit into them perfectly. For better clarity, you will find our holsters divided by model:
In the individual categories according to models, you will find both leather and
kydex holsters together.
Holsters for standard models
Only factory versions of the models, or models equipped with a red dot, fit into the holsters in our offer. If you equip your pistol with a tactical light, frame mount, or thumb rest, it changes its geometry so significantly that it will not fit into a standard holster, and you will need a custom-made one.
