Should I add a magwell to my CZ P-10C?

The modern compact model suitable for EDC, defense and recreational shooting made from durable polymer is not factory-equipped with a magwell.

Given that it is often carried concealed or used for service purposes, the question arises whether to install a magwell at all.

How a magwell will change your firearm

A magwell is a device that you mount on the bottom edge of the grip, and thanks to its funnel shape it enlarges the opening for inserting the magazine.
  • Improves the stability and balance of the firearm and thus contributes to a more confident shot.
  • Helps to dampen recoil.
  • Speeds up and simplifies reloading even in stressful situations.
Fast and easy reloading sounds tempting, however you must realize that a magwell increases and adds weight to the firearm, and that may not always be desirable for all-day carry. If the larger dimensions do not bother you but you do not want to add extra grams, we recommend choosing from aluminum magwells.

The CZ P-10C model is not equipped with a magwell straight from the factory, so when acquiring one expect that you will have to replace some of its components. Compared to other CZ models it has certain specifics, which we will address further in the article.

How to choose a magwell

If you decide to equip your CZ P-10C with a magwell, consider the following criteria:

Compatibility with the model

The magwell must primarily fit your model. Only then will it sit correctly, not block the catch, and everything will function as it should.

In this category you will find magwells intended for the following models:
  • CZ P-10C OR,
  • CZ P-10C OR SR,
  • CZ P-10C and other.
We cover magwell compatibility with individual models in detail in the article What to know before installing a magwell to your CZ.

Material

Since most owners do not use this model for sport shooting but for other purposes, you will find only aluminum magwells in our offer. Why? Brass magwells are significantly heavier compared to ALU magwells. Heavier material then helps better distribute weight and dampen recoil. P-10C owners generally do not require this and rather look for a light and durable material that only makes reloading easier.

With a magwell you must also replace other accessories

We come to which parts of the firearm you will need to replace in order to mount a magwell, and what to watch for when choosing.

CZ P-10 models do not have classic replaceable grips

That is good news, because you do not have to deal with their length and nothing prevents magwell installation.

Mag pads

What you must address, however, is the magazine base pad, which on the CZ P-10C in the front obstructs magwell installation. Therefore, order a mag pad together with the magwell that will allow it. Whether a particular pad is usable with a magwell is stated in its description.

Watch out for backstrap size

Magwells are designed for a medium size backstrap. If you use a size L backstrap, then at the area where it contacts the magwell remove a little material from the backstrap with a file.

Can I install a magwell myself?

Yes. If you already have a magwell and are only replacing it with a new one, simply unscrew the original, slide the new one in from the back (first clean and oil the contact surfaces), and screw it in.

If your CZ did not have a magwell before, install a suitable mag pad. Then you can slide in the magwell and screw it in.

Check the screw tightness regularly.

Note: In some cases the magwell needs slight modification. This is due to certain tolerances in firearms. In CZ firearms this occurs minimally, but it must be taken into account. How is such a modification done? Simply remove a small amount of material from the magwell using a file.
