The CZ Shadow 2 model exists in a version with optics-ready preparation or in a classic version. With the optics-ready version, you simply insert an
optic plate into the prepared slide cut and mount the red dot onto it. If your CZ Shadow 2 does not have optics-ready preparation,
you need a red dot mount to attach the red dot.
There is also another option that does not require a mount. Yes, you can have a cut milled by a professional into the slide or frame. However, you will lose the firearm warranty and this modification is irreversible.
It should be noted that in many competitive shooting disciplines, a red dot is no longer an advantage but rather a standard. If you are a competitive shooter, read on, the information will certainly be useful to you.
Compatibility with the firearm
First of all, the mount must fit your firearm. Individual CZ models differ in slide shape, the type and dimensions of the dovetail, or the screw spacing, and mounts correspond to these differences.
In this category, you can choose from mounts compatible with the following CZ models:
-
CZ Shadow 2,
-
CZ Shadow 2 SA,
-
CZ Shadow 2 Orange and others.
Compatibility with the red dot
Once you have resolved compatibility with the firearm, you face the second, no less important task – finding a mount that fits the red dot.
Red dots themselves differ in footprint (screw spacing, recoil lugs, mounting surface size, etc.).
Fortunately, there are several most common footprint types used by a larger number of red dots:
-
Trijicon RMR footprint standard,
-
Shield RMSc footprint,
-
Leupold DPP footprint,
-
C-More RTS footprint,
-
Aimpoint Acro footprint,
-
Holosun K-series footprint,
-
Venom / Docter footprint standard.
For the CZ Shadow 2, the most common and popular footprint is the Trijicon RMR, followed by the Shield RMSc and Vortex Venom.
Classification by compatibility with red dots
Universal mounts
You can purchase a universal mount that allows you to attach red dots with different footprints.
However, be careful, if you later decide on a red dot with a smaller mounting surface, the universal mount may be unnecessarily large, which is not always practical.
Mounts for a specific red dot
If you already have a red dot purchased and a mount with that specific footprint exists for it, we recommend choosing a mount specifically for it instead of a universal mount. Even then, you still have the option to choose from other red dots with the same footprint.
Does it depend on the material the mount is made of?
Yes, you will notice it especially in its weight. Mounts are made of steel or aluminum. Steel ones add more grams.
We have excellent personal experience with aluminum mounts and also positive feedback from customers. The only thing to watch out for with aluminum is not to use a higher tightening torque during installation than specified in the instructions. Aluminum, as a softer material, tends to deform, and aiming might not work as it should.
Can I install a red dot mount myself at home?
Yes, if you already have experience installing a rear sight, or if these technical tasks are not a problem for you, you can replace it with a mount.
Procedure:
-
First, unscrew the set screw(s) of your current rear sight and push the sight out.
-
Then clean the dovetail and ideally also lubricate the contact surfaces.
-
Next, press the red dot mount into the rear sight dovetail and secure it with the set screws (if the mount type has them).
-
Once the mount is firmly in place, you can install the red dot on it.
If you do not have sufficient experience, do not hesitate to entrust the replacement to a gunsmith.
