If you decided you want to have a magwell on your CZ, there are few things to consider so that you do not end up in an unpleasant surprise. In this article we will go over all of them.
What needs to be changed together with magwell
When you want to install a magwell to your CZ model, you also need to replace grips, mag pads, and sometimes also main spring plug.
When it comes to the magwell itself, there are few types of magwells that share compatibility with other CZ models. Therefore you can for example use the same magwell on CZ 75B as pm CZ 75 or CZ SP-01 Shadow. Some other models however keep their compatibility short and can be only used on the very specific models. You can find on our website magwells for these models:
- CZ Shadow 2 magwells [works on all Shadow 2 models excl. Shadow 2 Compact]
- CZ TS 2 magwells [works for all TS 2 models]
- CZ 75B magwells
- CZ 75 SP-01 magwells
- CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow magwells
- CZ P01 and CZ 75 Compact magwells
Also there are CZ P10C magwells, CZ P10F magwells and CZ Scorpion Evo magwells, but given these do not have replaceable grips, the installation does not require so many modifications as the rest of the CZs with classic metal body.
Grips
Magwell is installed on a sport that is interfering with the factory long grips. Becuase of that, you need to get short grips instead of the factory long grips.
Technically you could also make the factory grips shorter by cutting them, but we would not recommend going that way unless you really know what you are doing.
Bellow you can see the difference between classic factory grips and short grips that are made to work with magwell.
Good news is that vast majority of CZs share the same grips - as long as they are from the same size category. That means that the same grips can be installed on CZ Shadow 2, CZ TS 2, CZ 75B, CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow. Thanks to that, there is a wide range of compatible grips.
If you want to be 100% sure you are selecting from the ones you shall, we recommend going by categories made for each model:
- CZ Shadow 2 short grips
- CZ TS 2 short grips
- CZ 75B short grips
- CZ 75 SP-01 short grips
- CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow grips
If your CZ is not full sized model as the models above, you will need to select from compact grips. The same short grips can be used for CZ P-01 and for CZ 75 Compact. Be careful though, not all compact sized models use the same grips - for example CZ Shadow 2 Compact uses different mounting pattern for grips and thus the other compact grips will not work on that model.
Mag pads
Second part to replace when installing magwlel is mag pads. The thing is that factory mag pads are made to be flush with the grip in the front. However, with magwell installed, these factory mag pads would interfere with the magwell and thus need to be replaced. Otherwise the magazines cannot be inserted fully in, and thus cannot function.
There are mag pads that are compatible with magwells, and mag pads that are not comaptible with magwells. In the description of each mag pad you can find clear indication whether that model is or is not compatible with magwell. The difference is that the compatible mag pads are shorter in the front, and thus can work together with magwell.
Again, if you are not sure which pad to select, we recommend searching by your model:
- CZ Shadow 2 mag pads
- CZ Shadow 2 Compact mag pads
- CZ TS 2 mag pads
- CZ 75B mag pads
- CZ P-01 & CZ 75 Compact mag pads
- ...and others
Main spring plug
This applies to only few CZ models, for example CZ 75 D Compact or CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical. With these and few other CZ models you will also need to look for main spring plug without the lanyard loop.
You can identify easily - if your model has this loop at the end of main spring plug, you will need to replace it for a main spring plug without such plug. Otherwise you will not be able to install the magwell.
Exceptions to above described
All these texts apply to models that are not equipped with magwell from production, which is the case for example for all CZ TS 2 models. Those have already from production short grips as well as magwell-compatible mag pads.
For such models you thus do not need to get any of new mag pads nor short grips.
CZ TS 2 models also have magazines which from production come with magwell compatible mag pads. Therefore even if you buy extra mags, they will still work with magwell as they come.
All the other CZ models however do not come with magwell from production and all the above stated is still to be considered 100% valid information.
