The CZ 457 in .22 LR as well as in magnum calibers is among the most popular rifles thanks to its accuracy, easy handling, and excellent ergonomics. It is used by novice shooters, experienced marksmen for training, small game hunters, and both competitive and hobby shooters alike.

What if I want a scope on my CZ 457?

One option for installing a riflescope on a CZ 457 is using mounting rings for a Picatinny rail. To use them, you cannot do without the Picatinny rail itself.

In this category, you will find Picatinny rails for the CZ 457 in .22 LR as well as in magnum calibers.,

What are the advantages of Picatinny rings?

Mounting rings for a Picatinny rail are available in many variants, allowing you to choose a custom-tailored solution. The advantages include:
  • various mounting heights
  • option to choose a quick-detach (QD) mechanism
  • various inclinations (MOA)
  • choice between one-piece mounts or two separate rings
  • versatility

Picatinny rail: Yes or no?

Most CZ 457 models do not come with an integrated Picatinny rail from the factory. Fortunately, it can be easily purchased and retrofitted.

When to get a Picatinny rail

If you are currently deciding whether or not to add a Picatinny rail to your rifle, consider primarily how you plan to use the firearm. A Picatinny rail is best utilized by shooters who:
  • want quick-detach (QD) accessories for fast and convenient optics changes or for moving a riflescope to another firearm
  • own multiple firearms
  • are looking for maximum variability
  • want additional tactical accessories
  • shoot at longer distances and therefore need to address inclination (MOA rails)
  • enjoy the versatility of the mounting system and like upgrading their firearm with various accessories

When considering whether to acquire a Picatinny rail, take the following factors into account:

  • The Picatinny rail increases the height of the riflescope axis above the barrel.
  • A more complex mechanism naturally carries the risk of a joint loosening, potentially resulting in a loss of zero.
  • Higher overall weight of the entire system.
Ultimately, it depends on whether a Picatinny rail will bring you a real benefit. If you do not use additional optics or tactical accessories, are not looking for further variability, and simply want to install a riflescope and not worry about it further, dovetail rings might suit you better.

What is a Picatinny rail made of?

Rails are manufactured from either aluminum or steel.

Aluminum rails have a lower weight, but be careful during installation—ensure you do not exceed the recommended tightening torque (1 Nm). As a softer material, aluminum is more prone to deformation.

Steel rails can handle a higher tightening torque (2–2.5 Nm). Their relative disadvantage is higher weight and tighter tolerances—with steel rails, it is sometimes necessary to use a bit more force during installation.

Can I install a Picatinny rail myself?

Yes, you can manage the installation of a Picatinny rail yourself at home. You will need the correct Allen or Torx key and a torque wrench. The task will take you about fifteen minutes.
