The construction of CZ rifle magazines differs from pistol magazines. Although they consist of the same parts (body, follower, spring and base pad), they are more robust and less variable than pistol magazines. Rifle magazines are not enhanced with a magwell and their capacity is not increased by purchasing a different base pad. They are made for longer cartridges, always for a specific caliber and model, and therefore cannot be as easily interchanged between different models as pistol magazines.
Why look for a new magazine?
There can be several reasons to get a new magazine:
Wear: even if you regularly and diligently clean the magazine, it is a consumable and subject to wear. A new magazine then guarantees quality and reliability.
Damage: due to rough handling, dropping or pressure, damage may occur.
More magazines = more convenience: Usually you receive two magazines with the rifle as standard. Constantly refilling them will slow you down; it is much more convenient and efficient to get more pieces that you simply swap.
Increasing capacity: You put more cartridges into a longer magazine.
Material: Depending on the model, you were delivered either a polymer or a steel magazine from the factory. That may not suit you in terms of weight, feel or simply visually.
What to consider when choosing a magazine
When choosing a new magazine take the following criteria into account:
Compatibility with the model
With rifles you cannot interchange magazines between models as variably. Therefore always look for a compatible magazine in the category of the given model.
Pay attention to caliber especially when choosing magazines for smallbores, where one can easily overlook the difference between 22 LR and 22 WMR.
Caliber and length
Rifle magazines are always designed for a specific caliber (.22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR, .308 Win, 6.5 CM etc.).
For smallbores and rifles, unlike pistols, magazines with the same capacity have the same length. Extended magazines are not manufactured because rifle users do not use magwells nor change base pads. Although base pads could be changed, it is not customary.
Capacity
Capacity determines how many cartridges fit into the magazine. You can choose magazines with a capacity of 4–25 cartridges depending on your specific model.

Which magazine material to choose?
Owners of smallbores CZ 457, CZ 455, CZ 512 choose polymer as a lightweight, cheap and convenient option. More active shooters and those who use the rifle often and put higher demands on it prefer steel as a more durable material.
For larger calibers (CZ 600) polymer offers the advantage of lightness, which is appreciated by hunters during longer carrying of the rifle.
For the CZ 527 model the traditional choice is steel magazines, which withstand spring pressure and resist wear better.
Magazine maintenance tips
For reliability and long magazine life it is important to maintain it regularly and properly. How to make your magazine serve you well for a long time?
1. Regular cleaning
After each use in the field and at the range remove the spring, follower, clean from dust and lubricant residues.
2. Do not over-lubricate
Apply quality lubricant only in a thin layer. Too much oil attracts excess dust and may cause feeding failure.
3. Regularly check the spring and follower
Checking for cracks and deformations plays a very important role with rifles. Pay attention to inspection before every action and possibly during it as well, for example if a drop occurs. Keep a spare magazine on hand just in case.
4. Do not carry an overfilled magazine for long
A constantly compressed spring wears out more easily and will stop functioning properly.
5. With steel magazines check for corrosion from time to time
