CZ front sight replacement guide

First and foremost it is crucial to get the correct front sight. You can easily misstep and getting incorrect front sight, thus we recommend checking the CZ front sight selection guide.

If you are getting the whole sight set replaced, not only the front sight, then looking for the front sight proper height is no longer a question as you will be replacing the rear sight too.

Once you have the correct front sight, you can go ahead in reading how to replace the front sight properly.

Type of front sight

CZs use two differnet types of fixation for its front sights:

  • fixation by pin - this type uses pin that goes through the slide underneath the front sight
  • fixation by screw - this type of front sight has screw from its top that holds it tight to the dovetail

You can find out which model you have by the look.

Installation of front sight

As always, we recommend to check a gunsmith for proper deinstallation of the old front sight and installation ofd the new one.

But you are here to find out how to do it yourself, so no worry, we show step by step below.

Replacement of front sight fixed by pin

As visible from the photo, front sight fixed by pin has a little hole on its bottom. We will get to this later, but if your front sight has this hole, you know its the pin-fixed front sight.

CZ slide

  1. Disassemble your CZ pistol so that you hold only the slide
  2. Attach the slide in a bench vise with some leather around it so you do not scratch your slide
  3. As the front sight nor the pin underneath it is not glued from factory, you can start by knocking out the pin that goes underneath the front sight (front sight pin)
  4. Once the front sight is no longer fixed by the pin, you can knock out the front sight - we recommend using some polymer rod to use between the hammer and front sight, so you do not damage the slide or the front sight
  5. As the front sight is knocked out, clean the surface of the dovetail cut.
  6. Insert the new front sight in and knock it in in straight position - again we recommend using polymer rod inbetween the hammer and the front sight itself
  7. Make sure the front sight is fully in the dovetail cut
  8. Get a 2mm drill bit and drill through the hole where goes the front sight pin - it will enlarge the already partly pre-drilled hole in the front sight
  9. Knock back in the front sight pin so the new front sight is fixed
  10. The installation is complete

You can find following front sights with this kind of fixation on our web:

These types of front sights are however also part of complete sight set for specific models:

These types of front sights are most typical for metal CZs: be it CZ Shadow 2 (exc. of CZ Shadow 2 Orange), CZ 75B, CZ P01 or CZ TS 2 models and other.

Replacement of front sight fixed by screw

Deinstallation of the original front sight and installation of the new front sight secured by screw is easier compared to the front sights secured by pin.

CZ front sight secured by screw

  1. Disassemble your CZ pistol so that you hold only the slide
  2. Attach the slide in a bench vise with some leather around it so you do not scratch your slide
  3. As the front sight nor the screw is not glued from factory, you can unscrew the factory front sight screw
  4. Once the front sight is no longer fixed by the screw, you can knock out the front sight - we recommend using some polymer rod to use between the hammer and front sight, so you do not damage the slide or the front sight
  5. As the front sight is knocked out, clean the surface of the dovetail cut.
  6. Take the fiber optic rod out of the new front sight out (so that it will not get damaged, and so that you can get to the screw underneath it)
  7. Take the screw of the new front sight out so that it does not interfere with the slide cut
  8. Insert the new front sight in and knock it in in straight position - again we recommend using polymer rod inbetween the hammer and the front sight itself
  9. Make sure the front sight is fully in the dovetail cut
  10. Screw in the new front sight screw so that the front sight is fixed
  11. Insert back the fiber optic rod in its original position (we supply front sights that have a nice bump from the view of shooter - insert therefore in this way so that the rod is exceeding the front sight from the other side)
  12. Take a lighter and slowly approach the exceeding fiber rod with the fire - by heating it slightly up it will meld and create a bump on its other side so that the fiber rod is fixed
*the fiber optic rod of pin-fixed front sights have the fiber rod already fixed | its only the screw-fixed front sights that need to do this as by the construction the front sights, you would not be able to approach the screw if you were not able to first remove the fiber rod*
  13. The installation is complete

You can find following front sights with this kind of fixation on our web:

These types of front sights are however also part of complete sight set for specific models:

These types of front sights are most typical for polymer CZs: CZ P10 models (CZ P10C, CZ P10F, CZ P10S & other), CZ P07 and CZ P09. But they also fit metal CZ Kadet models.
