CZ front sight selection guide

Getting new sights for your CZ can be tricky. CZ models have different sights with different heights as well as different dovetail cuts [for rear sights] or system of fixation [for front sights].

Once you have the proper front sight selected, make sure to check the CZ front sigth replacement guide.

This quick guide is here to help you select the proper front sight for your CZ.

We assume the sights you are replacing are original factory sights. In other words, that the sights were not already switched for aftermarket sights. Why?

If you switch solely the front sight (which is the subject of this article), you need to make sure it will match the height of the rear sight. And all the data used in the article is used for the factory sights.

If you are looking for complete sight set replacement, make sure the CZ sight selection guide.

Why to replace front sight

The most common reason for replacement of the factory front sight is to improve the visibility.

With fiber optic front sight you will see the dot in the front shining and it will make the aiming process much faster and shooting much more precise.

CZ front sights

What to consider when choosing front sight replacement for you CZ:

  • type of front sight,
  • height of front sight,
  • and other parameters such as fiber optic size and color.

Type of front sight

There are two types of front sight fixation systems:

  • by a pin going underneath the front sight - typical for most steel CZs (CZ TS 2, CZ Shadow 2, CZ 75 models)
  • by a hex key from the top - typical for polymer CZs (CZ P-10 models, CZ P-07, CZ P-09)

These two types differ only by the fixation as the dovetail cut is the same for both.

Front sights fixated by pin

Most of the steel / aluminium CZ models come with front sights fixated by pin underneath:

  • CZ 75 models,
  • CZ Shadow 2 models,
  • CZ 85 models,
  • CZ 97 models,
  • CZ 75 SP-01 models,
  • CZ SP-01 Shadow,
  • CZ P-01 models,
  • CZ 75 Compact models,
  • CZ Tactical Sports models,
  • CZ TS 2 models,
  • and other.

However not all metal CZ guns come with this type of fixation - for example Shadow 2 Orange comes with fixation done by screw.

The system of front sight fixation by a pin is visible from the first sight. You can check yourself - there will be pin going through the slide underneath the front sight.

Front sights fixated by screw

Most polymer CZs use screws for fixation of its front sights:

  • CZ P-07 models,
  • CZ P-09 models,
  • CZ P-10C models,
  • CZ P-10S models,
  • CZ P-10F models,
  • CZ Kadet models,
  • and others.

The system of front sight fixation by a screw is visible from the first sight. You can check yourself - there will be a screw going from the top of the front sight.

Height of front sight

As mentioned above, for replacement of solely the front sight, it is important to know the proper height of the front sight.

How do we measure front sight height?

We measure the front sight from its very bottom to its very top, in milimeters. That is considered the european height measurement standard.

You can also find different types of measurements (often within US) where the measured part is only the part of front sight that is visible when mounted into the dovetail.

These are the heights of factory front sights:

Other parameters

Other parameters are not so crucial as it does not effect the compatibility with the pistol itself, but it is also to be considered.

Diameter of the fiber optic

Fiber optic sights come usually in two variants:

  • 1.0mm fiber optic rod
  • 1.5mm fiber optic rod

The difference is in the thickness of the fiber optic rod used in the front sight.

Practically, the larger the rod the brighter it shines. On the other hand, the smaller the dot, the more precise results you will achieve.

So unless you have difficulty with weaker eyes, we would recommend going for the 1.0mm front sight when switching solely the front sight.

Color of the fiber optic

There is no right and wrong color to choose from. Generally more popular are red dot fiber optics, but this is really just to each personal preference.
