CZ P-01 & CZ 75 Compact short grips are designed to be work together with magwell

CZ P-01 & CZ 75 Compact models come from production without magwell. If you want to replace the factory grips, you shall be looking for CZ P-01 & CZ 75 Compact long grips instead of short grips.

On the other hand, if you are looking to install also a magwell to your CZ P-01 or CZ 75 Compact, you are now in the right category.

Short grips - definition

There are two types of grips: long grips and short grips. The difference is that long grips work without magwell and short grips work with magwell [they are shorter by the size of magwell].

Thus if you have CZ with magwell from production, or if you want to install magwell yourself, you are searching for short grips.

Attention: Do not confuse long / short grips for grips for standard / compact models

You would not be the first one to make the mistkae so we rather mention it here: for compact models (CZ P-01, CZ 75 Compact or CZ Shadow 2 Compact) you are not supposed to be looking for "short" grips.

Nor you shall be looking for long grips just because your model is of standard size.

If "short" is mentioned in the name of product, it only means that it is designed to work with magwell.

Compatibility of short grips

All CZ models that have interchangeable short grips can be separate into three groups:

  • Standard CZ models
  • Compact CZ models
  • CZ Shadow 2 Compact

Although different CZ models come from production with differeng grips, they are mostly compatible between each other - as long as the CZs belong to the same size group.

For example CZ Shadow 2 grips will also work on CZ 75B, on CZ SP-01 and on CZ TS 2.

Similarly CZ P-01 grips will work also on CZ 75 Compact or CZ 75 D Compact.

The only exception is CZ Shadow 2 Compact - due to its unique construction, they have grips that are slightly different from other CZ compact grips. Thus you cannot use grips from CZ P-01 on your CZ Shadow 2 Compact. You have to look for grips made specifically for CZ Shadow 2 Compact.

Thickness and design

Once you know whether you will be looking for short grips or long grips, you have to decide on the thickness and design of the grips.

Thickness CZ grips

Depending on the CZ model you have, the factory grips may be thinner or thicker. Whether they were thick or thin, you can always replace them for aftermarket grips which are shaped differently.

Thick grips are designed primarily for guys with large hands. The grips make the pistol grip larger to embrace and thus the grip is more firm.

Thin grips, on the other hand, are designed for guys with less large hands. The idea is the same - thinner grips make the pistol grip smaller to embrace, and thus you can achieve better and more firm grip if your hands are also smaller.

Design

The grips also come in many different types: the surface can be made of very rough material, it can be made in ergonomical shape and also in sorts of color variations.

All these characteristics are to be chosen by you, its rather personal preference of each customer and what they are already used for.

Weight of grips

Another aspect to consider is weight of grips.

Polymer grips are the lightest, aluminium grips are somewhere in the middle when it comes to weight, and brass grips are by far the heaviest.

If you intend to use your CZ for self defense and EDC, we recommend going for rather lighter grips (polymer or aluminium).

For competition shooting on the other hand, the brass grips will make the gun heavier and more easy to control.
